Unicat 2.8: A customer's boat building journey.

Recently a customer from Australia sent me some feedback about building and using the Unicat 2.8.

Franz Wegner wrote:

"Hi James, Have recently completed the UNICAT 2.8 and it is a fantastic boat. Very stable in all conditions even in 0.75 meter waves. Just a bit of a over spray but I am fitting a small hatch to stop getting passengers wet. Will send photo of that modification when completed."

Franz also sent through a short article he wrote for the Wooden Boat Association of South Australia (WBASA) and some photos of the modifications he made to the Unicat which included a small wooden spray dodger to help keep spray off passengers.

See the article that Franz wrote about the Unicat 2.4 here:

Franz recently launched his Unicat at the Goolwa wooden boat regatta and fitted it with a pair of oars and a Honda 2.3hp outboard Franz reports that "The rowing exercise went well beyond expectation in being stable, easy to row and very agile. Thereafter we fitted the Honda 2.3 outboard and again the trials superseded my expectations."

"At the Goolwa Regatta event the boat performed very well in choppy waters and the event proved the excellent design and handling ability of the boat."

After the event Franz added his small spray dodger to the bow to help keep passengers dry in choppy conditions.

Thank you Franz for the great feedback and congratulations on your build. You have made a great job and I always enjoy seeing my customer's builds.
